Visiting Australia? Explore It Through The Arts

Elias Rasole

Introduction

Australia is a massive country, and when you’re traveling through it there are so many amazing places to see. But if you’re looking for a great way to explore the culture and history of Australia, then you should definitely check out some of its art galleries.

Art Gallery of New South Wales

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in the heart of Sydney, just a short walk from Hyde Park. It’s open every day except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The gallery hours vary according to season, but most days it’s open from 10am until 5pm (closed on Sundays). Admission is free for children under 18 years old; adults pay $15 AUD ($10 USD).

If you’re planning on visiting the Art Gallery of New South Wales with your kids, don’t forget that there are several different activities available inside the museum–from interactive workshops where kids can create their own artwork to special events like storytelling sessions or movie screenings. Also note that children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times while they’re in the museum!

National Portrait Gallery of Australia

The National Portrait Gallery of Australia is a treasure trove of art, history and culture. This free museum features works by Australian artists who have contributed to the country’s heritage.

The gallery is located in Parkes Place in Canberra, which is also home to Parliament House and Old Parliament House (now known as National Museum).

Open hours are 10am until 5pm daily except Mondays; closed on January 26th each year for Australia Day celebrations–the public holiday falls on January 27th this year so there will be no change in opening hours. You can find out more about visiting times here: https://www.npg.gov.au/visit-us/opening-hours

Australian National Maritime Museum

The Australian National Maritime Museum is the only museum in Australia dedicated to telling the story of our maritime history. It’s an excellent place to explore if you’re interested in learning more about Australia’s seafaring past, with a collection that includes items such as boats, ships and aircraft dating back hundreds of years.

The museum also hosts regular exhibitions featuring contemporary artists who have been inspired by their love of watercraft–and it houses one of the largest collections of Australian maritime art in the world! Check out these pieces on display:

  • The Southern Ocean Sailing Ship by John Wolseley (1857-1943)
  • A Day at Sea by Arthur Merric Boyd (1862-1945)

Australian War Memorial

The Australian War Memorial is a tribute to the service and sacrifice of all Australians who have served in war. It houses an extensive collection of artworks, photographs and historical documents that tell their stories. The Memorial also has a museum, archives and research centre so you can learn more about Australia’s involvement in conflicts around the world since WWI.

The arts are a great way to explore Australia.

If you’re visiting Australia, the arts are a great way to explore it. The arts can be enjoyed by all ages and cultures and can be accessed for free or for a small fee. The arts are also a great way to learn about Australia’s history through its artworks and architecture.

In addition to these benefits, there are many other reasons why exploring Australian culture through its art should be on your list of things to do while in this country:

  • It helps you understand Australian culture better. By understanding what makes up their identity as a people (and not just as individuals), you’ll have an easier time getting along with them in everyday situations. This means that if someone asks where they should go next weekend or what food they should order at dinner tonight–you won’t just shrug it off because “it doesn’t matter.” Instead, knowing what makes up their collective identity will give insight into how best serve those around us who come from different backgrounds than ourselves

Conclusion

The arts are a great way to explore Australia. There are many museums and galleries that showcase its rich history through paintings, sculptures and more.
